Cardiac symptoms are frequently transient, occurring every few weeks or months. Many times, attempts to document these intermittent cardiac events with 12-lead ECG or Holter monitoring are futile.

Intermittent patient-activated ECG recording is a noninvasive cardiac test that helps physicians diagnose and evaluate transient symptoms that may be cardiac in origin, such as syncope, palpitations, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, and dizziness that may not be captured for analysis by traditional 24-hour Holter monitoring. Event monitoring may also be warranted when extended periods of analysis are required.

When the patient experiences a symptom, he or she activates a patient-activated ECG monitor (PAEM), and the PAEM device records the ECG activity during the event. When the test period is completed, the patient returns the monitor to Klamath Heart Clinic for interpretation of the recorded data.
